Wintergreen: Green

Green Wintergreen (Pyrola chlorantha P. virens)

I noticed this plant in our back yard and waited a whole year for a flower to confirm what it was:

2009 July 7

I have only found two of these plants in our yard and have since found some on one of the back deer trails.

There are acids in the leaves that can be used for skin problems, snake and insect bites. Crushed leaves can be applied as a poultice.

Meandering

How often we race through life, totally oblivious to the beauty that lies around us. Even when we go for a walk, it is to “burn off calories”, see how fast we can get this over with all to get home and do what? Watch T.V.? I invite you on a walk through our awe inspiring countryside. Try meandering along … take note of this little insect, that little bird, this little plant. Really look at things. Slow down! Enjoy. Start to become in tune with all of creation. Truly relax ... enjoy!
