"Bunchberry or Dwarf Dogwood" (Cornus canadensis)
We didn't venture to try the berries, though they are edible, supposedly pulpy but sweet. Some First Nation peoples would throw a few handfuls in with other berries to act as a thickening agent and to hold the berries together as a cake when dried. Yet other peoples considered them not edible ... only good for the bears and the birds.
